Tonel Aged

Fortified dessert wines have been made at Mouchão for over 100 years. Thomas Reynolds learned the trade in Oporto in the 1820’s before settling in the Alentejo. His great, great grandson, known to everyone as Bouncer, shared his passion for fortified wine, bottling his first cask-aged 1929 “Sobremesa – Dessert” in the 1950’s.

Mouchão fortified wines are still made today in the same tradition. A fermenting lagar of Alicante Bouschet is arrested mid-fermentation, using top quality spirit and is allowed to age in a small tonel for up to five years.
