PONTE MOUCHÃO WHITE 2022– TECHNICAL INFORMATION
VINIFICATION
Decanted juice from hand-picked Verdelho grapes starts its fermentation in temperature controlled, stainless steel vats before finishing the primary fermentation in old French oak barriques.
Left on its fine lees, frequent battonage was carried out with regular monitoring and tasting over eight months, providing the wine with mouth-fill and complexity. This wine was bottled at 10 months from harvest.
VITICULTURE
In 2015 a tiny area of Verdelho was top grafted onto 25-year-old Perrum vines, in the Barragem and Mouchão Velho vineyards. Mostly located on skeletal, stony, alluvial clay loams. The sheltered east-west rows lie on the shallow banks of the large Mouchão reservoir, providing a freshness, complexity, and concentration common to few whites in the region.
Responsible husbandry and care in the vineyard is critical to achieving the best Mouchão fruit and sustaining our healthy bee population.
TASTING NOTES
Delicate notes of blossom and stone fruit combined with vibrant acidity, lead to a creamy texture and supple complexity; its elegant structure is rounded off with subtle oak and a long finish. Delightful in its youth, with some ageing potential.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS
Delightful in its youth, this Verdelho is best served with Portuguese seafood, fish casseroles, summer dishes and wild asparagus. Serve at 14ºc.
